Georgette T. Cartwright

Georgette T. (Gaynor) Cartwright, 76, of Schenectady passed away peacefully on October 20, 2021. Born in Schenectady on February 15, 1945, Georgette was a daughter of the late Edward and L. Georgette (Joyce) Gaynor. She was raised and educated in Schenectady and a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She later earned her Associates degree from Schenectady County Community College. Georgette began her career as an advocate with VISTA and was stationed at the YWCA in Schenectady for several years. She continued on to Northeast Parent and Child Society in Schenectady as a childcare worker. For 15 years, Georgette was a legal advocate for Unity House in Troy and retired from Law Order and Justice in 2011 as a supervisor. She was passionate about women and children's rights and was an advocate against domestic violence. Georgette enjoyed gardening and caring for her houseplants. She also loved cats, swimming and spending time by the water, traveling, and cooking; her shrimp dip was always a favorite at family functions. However, what Georgette held closest to her heart were the memories that she shared with her family. In addition to her parents, Georgette was predeceased by a sister Judith VanValkenburgh. Survivors include her children, Kimberly-Anne Bartz of Glenville, Kristen-Rae Jensen of Schenectady, John (Deborah) Bartz of North Greenbush and Joseph Cartwright of Schenectady; her sister, Karen Yager of CA; her grandchildren, Stephan (Sabra-Joi) Bartz (baby girl Bartz expected March 2022), Sarah Bartz, Dexter Rossi, Aja Rossi, Ryan Langenbach, and Cody Langenbach; and six nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady.
