Harold Brown Obituary

Sgt. Harold T. Brown, age 91, of Rotterdam, New York passed away on January 20, 2022. Harry was born to Edward and Christina Brown in Manhattan on May 16, 1930. He is survived by his sister (Eileen Martello) and predeceased by five brothers. Harry is also survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Josephine Brown, four daughters: Lorraine Brown, Kathleen Curtis (Michael), Vanessa Noxon, and Patricia Wilson. He continues his legacy with eleven grandchildren; Ryan, Derek and Shane LeGere, Eric, Jacqueline and Kevin Curtis, Benjamin and Steven Noxon, Anthony Hill and Jenna and Theron Wilson as well as nine great-grandchildren. Harry was a POW in Korea from 1950-1953. Surviving the death march and attempting to escape on three separate incidents, Harry was truly a man of valor & dignity. During Harry's imprisonment, he became incredibly ill and ended up in the “death house. His captors used experimental methods that miraculously brought him back to health. Harry would often entertain his comrades by telling stories from books he read. After three years of torture and uncertainty, he returned home in August of 1953. In honor of his service to his country, Harry received two bronze stars, one for valor, among several other medals and awards. Harry's book about his horrific experiences as a POW will be out soon, titled Korea Camp 5. Harry was a brilliant and passionate man. His huge heart, sense of humor, and engaging storytelling made him adored and loved by all. Harry enjoyed fishing, golfing, astronomy, writing, and making his homemade sauce. He cherished spending his days on Lake George, often referring to it as God's Green Acre. Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25th at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday, 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Gabriel The Archangel Church in Rotterdam. You had accomplished so much in your life. I remember going over your house as a kid and always being welcome. I remember you as being quite and soft spoken. Mike enjoyed listening to your stories while waiting for Lorraine and myself getting ready to go out. You will surely be missed!
