HENRY DEPAN Obituary

Dr. Harry M. DePan, 86, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, with his family by his side. Born on July 13, 1923 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Madeline (McCarthy) DePan. Dr. DePan graduated from Glens Falls High School. He was an alumnus of Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts, where he received his BA degree. He received his medical education and doctor of medicine degree from Cornell University Medical College at Cornell Medical Center and New York Hospital. He completed his surgical residency at Hartford Hospital in Hartford Connecticut. During the Korean War, Dr. DePan served as a member of the surgical staff of the 11th Evacuation Hospital in Korea and Japan. In 1954, Dr. DePan opened an office of general surgery in Glens Falls, and after his retirement stayed active in the community by assisting in surgery at Glens Falls Hospital as well as volunteering with the Glens Falls Medical Mission Foundation traveling to Guatemala, as well as volunteering in Somalia and Saipan. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mary DePan in 2003; and a son, Brian DePan. Survivors include his wife, Martha (Belisle) DePan of Glens Falls; three sons, Andrew DePan of Glenville, Dr. Harry J. and Ellen DePan of Niskayuna, and Mark T. DePan of Houston Texas; one daughter, Madeline and Michael Lynch of Albany; six grandchildren, Brian DePan, Matthew DePan, Cara DePan, Dr. Cormac DePan, Eric DePan, and Ryan DePan; and a sister, Marie Herlihy of Glens Falls also survive him. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, Glens Falls. Rite of committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery Main Street South Glens Falls. Family and friends are invited and may call on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 4 to 8 at Singleton-Healy Funeral Home 407 Bay Road, Queensbury, NY 12804 Online condolences may be made by visiting www.scott-barbieri.com. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Glens Falls Hospital Foundation, 126 South St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
