JAMES SENA Obituary
James V. Sena, Sr., 89, and a lifelong resident of Gloversville, passed away on December 19, 2010. He was born in Gloversville to Giacomo and Calogera Sena on April 18, 1921. He served in the U.S. Navy as a signalman from 1942 to 1946. In 1948, Jim married Helen Tlustachowski, and they were married for 53 years until her death in 2002. After his service in the U.S. Navy, Jim returned to Gloversville where he eventually worked for the Gloversville School System for over 30 years, retiring in 1983. Jim was an avid ham radio operator who met many people through the airwaves. He had a corner of the living room set up with his equipment and a tall antennae attached to the side of his house to support his hobby. His call letters were K2PKU. Jim was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans and Knights of Columbus. From 1986 to 1995, he enjoyed spending several months each winter in Florida visiting friends and family. In addition to Helen, Jim was preceded in death by his son, James Jr., in 2008. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Robert and Florence of Orlando, FL, and Thomas and Sandy of Raleigh, NC, and three grandchildren, Jessica and Emily of Raleigh, NC, and Scott (USAF) of Vance AFB, Enid, OK. He is also survived by three brothers, Richard and Tony of Gloversville, Charles of Marble Falls, TX; one sister, Grace D'Errico of Gloversville, and many nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank the staff of Fulton County Regional Healthcare Facility for the fine care they provided for Jim during the past eight years. A prayer service will be conducted Tuesday 9:30 a.m. at the John W. Finocan, Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 South Main St., Gloversville. Spring interment will take place in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Holy Spirit Building Fund, 19 South Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078 or to a charity of one's choice.
