John W. Couse

John W. Couse, 72, was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, surrounded by his family.Born in Oneonta, New York on July 16, 1946, he was the son of Robert and Betty Couse. He was a graduate of Oneonta High School and moved to the Ballston Spa area in the 1960's.John was a welder and hard facing instructor for 20 years at General Electric. After leaving GE, he opened a welding and repair shop in Charlton. He later began his family businesses in Ballston Spa, Couse and Sons, a steel fabrication and erection company, and J&R Welding Supply and Fuel Oil. He then branched out into Fort Edward, opening Bigelow's Energy. John enjoyed life, whether he was with his family at his home on Saratoga Lake or in Florida. He loved fishing, boat rides, jet skiing or just being at the lake. He liked to bowl with his sons and treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren.He was predeceased by his mother, Betty Edson; father, Robert Couse, and his beloved dogs, Sherese and Sandin.John is survived by his wife, Linda; sons John Couse (Kim), and Rick Couse (Lisa); grandchildren, Tyler, Amanda, Brett, and Vanessa; great-granddaughter, Paisley; brother, Bob Couse (Joan); sister Paula Struble (Don); several half brothers, half sisters, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 18 at St. Mary's Church, Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Ballston Spa Cemetery.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, September 17 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa.
