John Valachovic Obituary

John "Jack" W. Valachovic John (Jack) Wendell Valachovic lately of Peck's Lake, originally from Schenectady, passed away June 25th, 2024, after a brief illness. Predeceased by his parents Albina (Sarnowski) and John Paul Valachovic, his beloved Uncle Fred Sarnowski and younger brother David Noel Valachovic. Jack, as he was known far and wide was married to his great love Bonnie (Hansen Oare) Valachovic for the past 22 Years and they both relished melding their families together.
Like many other members of his family in Schenectady, Jack spent time working at GE at the Main Plant and in Syracuse. He later spent over 30 years teaching Middle and High School Math at Fonda Fultonville Central School district and he was very proud of his time there helping kids learn the mysteries of mathematics and life. As a teacher, he received many awards that he was nominated for by his students. He also spent time coaching Track and Cross Country.
Jack, a proud Air Force Veteran, served his country during the Cold War. Jack was also a Mason at Saint Patrick's Lodge #4 F & A M receiving the Dedicated Service Award. Jack was a very active member of Saint John's Episcopal Church in Johnstown, he was on Vestry, sang in the choir, and ran the NOAH Program for many years.
An avid outdoorsman his entire life, he was often found hunting and flyfishing both here in the East and his cherished Western trout streams. He was an avid hiker and camper and he and Bonnie spent much of their early life together in the wilds of New York hiking, camping and guiding clients. Always the teacher, Jack loved introducing people to the woods and wildlife. He passed this love onto many of his descendants who have followed their own paths in the wilderness.
Jack was a proud father to his son John (Christine) and daughter Amy (Joseph) Mulyca and of his stepchildren Emily (Wesley) Cox, Patrick (Megan) Oare and Christian (Julie) Oare. His greatest pride was his many grandchildren and his great grandchild. Travis (Brianna) and Jack (Jesse) Mulyca, Zane (Karina), Jake (fiancée Maggie) and, Luke (fiancée Cheyenne) Valachovic, Wyatt and Owen Cox, Lucy, Oliver, Evelyn, and Avery Oare as well as great grandson Joseph Mulyca were the light of his life. He marveled at all their accomplishments and activities and was their biggest cheer leader. Jack is also survived by his brother Richard (Barbara) Valachovic, great friends in addition to brothers, Rick and Jack shared lives well lived.
His lessons and guidance shaped us all and we will all carry them forward through our lives.
