JOSEPH MARX Obituary

Joseph J. Marx, 84, of Maplewood Manor, passed away peacefully August 15, 2010, at Saratoga Hospital. Joe was born in Albany on August 21, 1925, the son of the late Joseph J. Marx I and Florence (King) Marx. He grew up and was educated there before enlisting with the U.S. Navy in 1942. Joe served aboard several ships including the USS Norton Sound where he was a machinist 2nd class. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific receiving the Theatre Medal, American Theatre and European Theatre Medals. Joe worked for the Town of Malta Highway Department for a number of years, retiring in 1987. His wife, Elizabeth M. (Proper) Marx died in September 1986. Joe was of the Methodist Faith. He was once an avid amateur photographer, enjoyed music and freshwater fishing. The family wishes to thank Maplewood Manor, especially the staff on A-1 for the excellent care and compassion shown to Joe while he was a resident there. He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary E. Marx (1961); and son, Joseph J. Marx III (2007); his brother, Robert P. Marx; and his sister, Jane D. Van Beuichbm. Survivors include three sisters, Roberta Radant of Beverly Hills, FL, Majesty Lehman of Elk Grove, CA and Monica Knapp of Colorado Spgs, CO; and dear friends, Don and Shari Wilkinson of Saratoga Springs. Joe lived in the Town of Glenville for twenty years and was predeceased by his dearly missed companion, Diane Askew (2008). Joe's wish was to have his burial service private at Park View Cemetery. There will be no calling hours at his request. Remembrances in the form of memorial contributions may be made in Joseph Marx's name to Maplewood Manor Nursing Home Residential Account, 149 Ballston Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
