Josephine Notro Obituary

Miss Josephine "Cheffy" Notro, 82, of Saratoga Ave., died Monday morning, at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy. A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born December 10, 1926, daughter of the late John and Crescenzia Romanelli Notro, Cheffy lived with and took care of her parents, and doted over her many nieces and nephews, like they were her own children. For 17 years, Cheffy was the housekeeper for the Augustinian priests that lived in residence in Mechanicville. Previously she had been a machine operator for the former Korell Dress Co. of Mechanicville. Always looking to catch the brass ring, Cheffy enjoyed bingo, the racino and card playing as ways to pass the time, and enjoy family and friends company. She was a devoted member of Assumption-St. Paul Church in Mechanicville. Survivors include her two sisters, Jennie Lawyer of Mechanicville and Mary Atwood of Hoosick Falls; along with many nieces and nephews. Cheffy was predeceased by brothers, Dominick, James, John and Joseph Notro; and sisters, Beatrice Valdeon, Caroline Richardson and Lucy Lembo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Assumption-St. Paul William Street Church. Burial in St. Paul's Cemetery. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Assumption-St. Paul Church Endowment Fund, in loving memory of Josephine "Cheffy" Notro.

To Jennie and the extended Notro family.

You have my sympathy on the death of Aunt Cheffy. I remember her from many years ago as a very kind, caring lady. How swiftly the years fly by.

Take comfort in your memories.
