Lawrence Strack Obituary

Lawrence E. Strack, born January 24, 1942, passed away on June 26, 2016 from complications resulting from a motorcycle accident while en route to Alaska. Larry was the eldest son of Paul and Mary (Sabourin) Strack of Tupper Lake, NY. After graduating from Newcomb Central School, he joined the United States Army. Following his military experience, he was employed by National Lead Co. in Tahawus, NY. Upon completing welding school, he was employed by General Electric until his retirement. During his retirement he enjoyed his years of driving school bus for the Middleburgh Central School. Since 1974, he owned and operated Strack's Archery Shop which was a passion throughout most of his life. On January 21, 1967, Larry married Marilee Miller also of Tupper Lake. They enjoyed many happy years of motorcycling, archery and camping but their most rewarding experience were their two daughters, Melissa and Kelly Strack. Larry was predeceased by his wife and his parents. Larry is survived by his daughters, Melissa Strack of Middleburgh, NY, Kelly Strack (Jed Conboy) of Gloversville, NY; his siblings, Terri Strack (Howard Malloy) of Titusville, FL, Shyamala Strack of Atlanta, GA, Sheila Poirier (Curtis) of Monroe, NC, Jeffrey Strack of Glens Falls, NY, Tracy Strack (Greta) of Virginia Beach, VA; his grandson, Joseph Martino of Hudson, NY; and many nieces and nephews. Larry left behind many dear and loving family and friends who enjoyed his humor, stories, biking adventures and general good times. Prior to his passing, he was in active pursuit of motorcycling all 49 continental states. Some of his most memorable biking adventures which he accomplished either solo or with friends include Route 66, Dragons Trail, Louise and Clark Expedition, Naches Trail and Maggie Valley, which he especially enjoyed. Larry was a fine man who embraced life with humor, integrity, creativity and intelligence. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of his life is planned for September.

I am so sorry to hear of Larry's passing. The last time I saw Larry was when we celebrated his Dad's 90th in 2008 up in Tupper Lake. I have been down south for over 5 years so haven't seen much of the family since then. When I was a young child, we got together with our grandparents in Lake Placid. I used to follow Larry around as he was a few years older than me. I remember him being very patient & kind. I enjoy looking at the old photos and remembering what fun we used to have until we all went our separate ways. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family.
