I just learned of this tragedy yesterday. My sincere sympathy to "Bakes" family and other friends. Mike was a kind, caring and loving soul. One trip skiing to Powder Mt with a bunch of his OC friends, my girlfriend, Julie and I met up and skied with the group. Julie had a run in with a tree branch and while taking a break for lunch at one of the rented cabins where the group was staying, Mike patched her arm up so she could continue skiing that day. Mr. Safety, he always had a first aid kit on hand.
He never shied away from a cold beer after skiing or playing golf with friends. Cheers to you Mike!
His wit, humor and kindness will always be remembered and missed.

Wow. I am in shock. What a good guy. Mike was everywhere, always. Polite, happy, at every golf tournament, picnic, on every ski trip, committee. Rest In Peace.

My deepest condolences to the entire Baker family for your loss. Mike was a great guy, we graduated from HS together and kept in contact regularly at the Warren Miller movies and The Ski Snow show at Empire State Plaza.
I will never forget while heading up to Whiteface Mt, my transmission on my `84 Firebird went in Keene Valley. We got a lift to the mountain and went skiing. We had no idea how we were going to get home. Who came to the rescue? Bake! We loaded up our stuff in his Volvo and he brought us home.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike and his family. He will be greatly missed.

Mike will be missed. He was always there to help and was what I call an unseen activist. He followed his passions, and helped others follow theirs.
I was a ski patrol and ski instructor at Gore Mountain and a currently a ski patrol at Whiteface. I spent a fair amount of time round Mike. We had a great conversation about music at a recent celebration of life for Jeff Kirshner, another friend of Mike's from whiteface patrol that passed a couple years ago.
Journey well my friend!

I am an old friend of Mike's through the OC Ski Club. I am so very, very sorry for your loss.
I came into our club group of friends via my late husband, Gerd, who passed on in 2000 (from MS). Mike was part of our Share-the-Care group that our friends created to help me and our 2-year old daughter manage things and care for Gerd during his illness. Mike was always quick to step up and help out with whatever we needed during that time. After Gerd's passing, Bakes would often reach out to keep me included in the group. He did the same for Gerd´s brother, Rolf, who he would grab for a round of golf. Mike was just such a kind soul who knew how to make friendships & fun a priority.
The attached photo is from day in 1993 when we went for a mountain bike ride near our Schroon Lake camp.

So sorry for everyone's loss. He will be missed. What do I remember about Mike? He made a hell of a good turkey chili and would win accolades of praises (as well as awards) during the SWC (Schenectady Winter Sports) chili contests. Over the years, I was one of the judges...so I know. Always wonderful to drink a beer with Mike.

To the family and friends of Mike "Bakes" Baker,
25 years ago, a dear friend urged me to join the Out of Control Ski Club as a step forward in regaining positivity in my life subsequent to a devastating divorce. Following this advice opened new horizons that I could experience with a veritable plethora of warm and inviting individuals like Mike Baker. Bakes personified all the positive attributes of the Club. He definitely "marched to the beat of his own drum," but he was empathetic to needs and desires of everyone he met. It was a pleasure to be in his company, whatever the endeavor. Any time spent with Bakes was time well spent. It was a privilege to have known him.
Please accept my sincere condolence on the passing of a most endearing and unique individual.
