Michael A. Newell passed from this life, due to complications from the Covid-19 Virus, on January 13, 2021 at the age of 70. Michael was born in Albany, NY on August 31, 1950 and was a son of the late John P. and Sara (Miller) Newell. He was raised in Loudonville and was a 1968 graduate of Shaker Senior High School. Michael was a well known area automobile dealer. His career began when he worked for his father at Newell Bros. Dodge in Cohoes where he worked his way up to dealer principal. Michael was also employed by several area auto dealerships before founding and operating Route 9 Auto Sales in Clifton Park for many years from where he retired. Michael enjoyed playing the lottery, the Racino at Saratoga and the Saratoga Flat Track. He spent his time watching the Mecum Auto Auctions, NY Yankees Baseball and the occasional trip to Yankee Stadium. His appreciation for the automobile was evident in the way he kept his own cars; always meticulous both inside and out. Mike will be missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his companion of 40 years, Judith Vogel; his sisters, Barbara (Harold) Jewett and Lee St. John; his brother, Jay (Suzanne) Newell; his nieces and nephews; Robert (Lisa) Jewett, Jayson (Ashley) Newell, Kristyl Newell and Jacquelyn (Ian) Hadley; his great-nieces and nephews, Robert, and Ashley Jewett, Jacob and Olivia Newell and the late Lincoln Hadley; his great-grandnephew, Aiden Jewett. A funeral service for Michael will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 12 p.m. in the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Michael's family on Thursday, prior to the service, from 10 a.m. until 12p.m. Wearing face masks and social distancing will be required. The family is planning a celebration of his life at a later date. I just heard of Mike´s passing. So sudden. We had talked on the phone mid December and planned on getting together when I got back in town this Spring. Mike´s nickname for me was "waterpump" and that´s how he usually referred to me. So many memories of the car business and the good times. My condolences to Judy and the family. Jon

40 plus years of friendship and so many memories with Mike and Judy. They have always been there for me....Mike never failing to call on special days or just to check in. Dear Newell Family....I wanted to share my condolences with you all. I'm sure that Michael and Lance are in heaven sharing a cocktail at "Kirkers" in the sky. I knew Mike way back when we all would spend lots of time together. One of my fondest memories is reading Limericks at a bar (I can't remember the name), but we all had the best time. He was a good friend at the time, over the years and moving away from Albany 35 years ago I lost touch. I always called him "cuddles" as he really was a teddy bear. I met Mike over three decades ago when I purchased my first car from him. We’ve been friends ever since. Mike on the “outside” was a black bear and on the “inside” was a teddy bear. I will miss our friendship and your text messages almost everyday checking in on me and my family. RIP my friend until we meet again!
