Peter Bylina Obituary

Peter P. Bylina Jr. Amsterdam - Peter P. Bylina Jr, 93, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side.
Pete was born on June 12, 1930, in Amsterdam to the late Peter and Florence (Czernis) Bylina. As an Amsterdam native, Peter grew up locally and graduated from Wilbur Lynch High School in Amsterdam, NY. At 19 years old, he served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the 149th Infantry Division in the Korean War. After two years of serving in Germany, Peter returned and began working for the Amsterdam Fire Department, where he served for 35 years and retired as Battalion Chief.
Pete was happily married to his wife Marylin for 59 years before her passing in 2010. Together they raised their three children Kathleen, Pauline, and Peter.
Peter held numerous positions, not only through his careers, but as a volunteer, husband, father, and friend. He and his wife were avid golfers, and he served on the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Commission for 22 years. He always kept up with politics and served as the City Chair of the Montgomery County Republican Committee for three years and as Ward Two Committeeman for 22 years. For 34 years, Pete served as a Director with Montgomery County Off Track Betting. No matter the position he was filling, Pete was always charismatic as well as a committed leader.
Pete was known for his great sense of humor, likeable personality, and active involvement in the community. More than anything, he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Poker player and loved watching sports, especially the NY Yankees and Giants.
Peter was predeceased by his wife Marylin Bylina and parents Peter and Florence Bylina.
He is survived by his three children Kathleen Izzano (James), Pauline Dominiak, and Peter Bylina (Christina); six grandchildren James Izzano, Marleen Izzano, Lauren Dominiak, Lynnae Zampella (Matt), Sophie Bylina, and Carly Bylina.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 11 o'clock at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY with The Very Rev. O.
