Raymond Smith Obituary

Raymond Duane Smith, age 92 of Burnt Hills, NY, passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital on Saturday, September 17, 2022. Ray was born on March 10, 1930, in Olean, NY. After graduating from high school in Bradford, PA, he entered the General Electric Apprentice Program in Schenectady, NY, and worked for the company for 38 years. He was a member of the General Electric Apprentice Alumni Association and the General Electric Quarter Century Club. Ray served in the U.S. Army in 1955, stationed in Germany, and received his honorable discharge in 1962. Ray was a kind, gentle man who cared deeply for his family. He was an avid reader and historian and loved family dinners, birthday parties, holidays, and multiple varieties of packaged cookies always by his side. He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Dorothy Hiller (Smith); his infant son, Brian Smith; his brother, Lloyd Smith; his sister, Joan Smith (Brittain); and his brother-in-law, William Hiller. Ray is survived by his two children, Kevin Smith of Syracuse, NY, and Melissa Smith (Senecal) of Gansevoort, NY; three grandchildren, Nicole Senecal of Saratoga Springs, NY, Tyler Senecal of Gansevoort, NY, and Christopher Smith of Syracuse, NY; his brother-in-law Richard Brittain of Castle Hayne, NC; his sister-in-law, Virginia Smith of Smethport, PA; his son-in-law, Tadd Senecal of Gansevoort, NY; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those at Saratoga Hospital who cared so lovingly for Ray and for his family by his side.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. for relatives in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association by going to www.alz.org/help-support.
