Richard McKean Obituary

Richard E. McKean, Sr., 85, at rest, Wednesday, December 10, 2008. Richard, the son of the late Newton and Elizabeth Ewing McKean was born and raised in Braintree, Massachusetts and educated there. He served as a sergeant in the Army during WWII and was involved in various European campaigns. Richard moved to this area after his military service and was employed for many years as an accountant at General Electric in Schenectady, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Rotterdam District 2 Fire Dept. and the Rotterdam Elks Lodge 2157. He also volunteered as a driver for the Red Cross. He also enjoyed painting, drawing, woodworking, ice fishing, traveling and dancing. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to the late Edith C. McKean (2005); father of Richard McKean Jr. and his wife Karen, of Duanesburg, Laura Draper and her husband, Christopher of Rochester; brother of the late William A. McKean, Newton H. McKean Jr., and Robert W. McKean; loving grandfather of Craig (Kimberly) Oliver, Brian Oliver and Pamela McKean. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A calling hour will be held Monday, December 15 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Those in attendance may follow in procession to a 1:30 p.m. committal shelter service with military honors in the Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's name, may be made to the Activities Fund, Baptist Health & Rehabilitation, 297 N. Ballston Ave., Scotia, NY 12303.
