Robert Bennett

1941 - 2023

Robert "Bob" Bennett Schenectady- Robert Ashley Bennett, of Schenectady New York, age 82, passed away after a short illness on Thursday October 26, 2023.
Bob was born October 10, 1941 in Rome, New York and was the son of Ferdinando Harvey and Grace Frances (Berry) Bennett. He attended Ballston Spa Central School. He was a veteran of the US Navy on the USS Lake Champlain and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis with honor. He was a member of the American Legion in Northville, New York. He served in the Stanford Heights Fire Department.
Bob worked in Schenectady at General Electric as an inspector in the Gas Turbine Department and retired from there. His passions were his family and the outdoors. He sang in the choir and volunteered in the United Methodist churches in Northville and Edinburg N.Y.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Cheryl Ann Vrooman Bennett, his son Brian David Bennett, daughter Sheila Ann Woods, 4 grandchildren - Issac and Abigail Bennett, Melissa(Mike)Heise, Pamela(Kevin)Ravas and 5 great grandchildren. ( Benjamin, Theodore, Norbert, Augustus, Mary Heise). He is also survived by his sister Eleanor Ann Collins.
Robert is predeceased by his parents and his half step sister Vivian, brothers Reginald Harvey (Reggie), John Russell Bennett and Edward Paul Bennett.
A graveside service will be held Friday 11:30 a.m. at the Gerald B H Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY, the funeral procession will first gather at the visitor center at 11:15 a.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
