Tyler Scocca Obituary

Beloved son, friend, family member, and celebrated varsity athlete, Tyler T. Scocca lost his life in a car accident on Sunday, June 25. Seventeen-year-old Tyler was born on March 15th, 2006 in Niskayuna. His mother Jennifer (DuPont) Phoenix and father Leonard "Lenny" Phoenix III are deeply appreciative of the wonderful stories friends, and community members are sharing about Tyler's huge heart and positive impact on those around him. Tyler was a valued team member on Galway's Varsity wrestling team. Tyler was a passionate Journeymen wrestler who was dedicated to making his senior year remarkable. He was a pillar of consistency at the club. His many friends and teammates fondly remember him as a compassionate and encouraging friend who could always be counted on. Tyler was passionate about playing guitar and loved The Beatles. His family and friends enjoyed jamming with him. Tyler enjoyed lifting weights, and riding dirtbikes; but most of all he valued his time with friends and family. The Galway Central School Community appreciated his thoughtfulness and wit that brightened their days. His mother, father, and sisters will greatly miss his sense of humor and pranks that filled their home with his contagious laughter, and occasional sibling rivalry.

In addition to his loving parents, Tyler is survived by his sisters Kendra Phoenix and Madison Phoenix; grandparents Fe (Timothy) Bishop, David (Laurie) DuPont, Leonard (Debra) Phoenix Jr; aunts and uncles Amanda (David) Addeo, Timothy R. Bishop, Peter (Heather) Minett, James (Brittany) Arnold, Jennifer (Les) Wright.

Sadly, I just saw this too late to go to calling hours. I was both shocked and greatly saddened by the news about Tyler. I loved all the kids at Galway and he was a big fave of mine. I was a cleaner there (just retired), and I used to let the high school kids in the building in the mornings and always watched for Tyler, usually last, to come ambling along. I'd say something like "well good morning there sunshine", and he'd give me that beautiful grin of his, and through sleepy looking eyes mumble "morning Whitt". I will always feel honored in having known that wonderful young man. My very deepest condolences to all his family and friends.
