Anthony LaScala Obituary

Anthony Louis "Tony" LaScala

Anthony Louis "Tony" LaScala, age 91, of Naperville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 17, 1934, Tony dedicated his life to faith, family, and education.

Tony was the beloved husband of Monica (Drees) LaScala for 66 wonderful years. He was a devoted and proud father to Paul (Kerry), Andy (Diane), Phil (Stacey), and Mark (Kristin). Tony was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Elizabeth, and sons, Christopher and Peter. He was a fond and caring grandfather to Jonathan (Sarah), Benjamin (Taylor), Timothy, Samuel, Christopher, Peter, Charlie, Elizabeth, Joseph, and Jake.

He is survived by his sister, Lucille, and brother, Louis; and was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy, and brothers, Sam and Nathan (Babe).

Tony dedicated more than three decades to inspiring students and athletes through his career in education. He began his teaching and coaching career with five years at St. Paul High School in Owosso, Michigan, followed by a year at Hackett Catholic Prep School in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He then served for 30 years as a respected teacher, coach, and athletic director at St. Procopius College, later known as Illinois Benedictine College and Benedictine University.

Throughout his career, Tony inspired countless individuals with his commitment, integrity, and passion for developing not only their skills, but also their character. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched both on and off the court. He loved meeting new people and considered everyone he met his friend.

Above all, Tony will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, his deep faith, and his love of sport. His presence brought warmth and kindness to all who knew him.

For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Tony's life, memorial donations may be directed to Loaves & Fishes Community Services.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 4:00-8:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

Tony always had great advice and stories to share. His love for sports and education was shown by how he always gave back. A staple at Benet Academy. I also loved talking to him at the fitness center.

We enjoyed being next door neighbors with the La Scala family during our 10 years in Lisle.
The best piece of advice that Tony told me was to take our 5 over to the he track and let them run! It was the best idea ever. Our 5 loved to run. Our youngest was only 2 when we moved.
All 5 of our children were involved in sports and all 5 were part of state trophies. I appreciated the kindness and ideas they passed along as our 5 grew up until we headed to Sandwich, 10 years later.
May your hearts be full of sweet memories

I have the life I have only because of the things Coach LaScala did for me when I was at IBC. I will always remember him fondly. My sincere sympathy to the LaScala Family. May you be blessed with the Lord's Peace and Comfort as you recall memories and share stories. And may Coach rest in the Lord's Peace.
