Barbara R. Hitchler passed away peacefully on July 18, 2021, at Old Country Care, St. Charles, after a decade long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Barb was born on November 8, 1937, and raised in Chicago. She met her husband, Ed, on a blind date on March 23, 1957, and they married a year later on June 7, 1958; both anniversary's were celebrated every year. Shortly after the birth of their first child, they moved to Elgin in 1960 where she was a homemaker and active at St. Mary's Catholic Church. After raising her children, she went to work as secretary and book keeper for St. Mary's Church until she retired. Barb had a passion for bingo and loved cruising and spending time at St. Germain/Eagle River, WI. Barb is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ed; her children, Edward Hitchler, Karen (Eric) Carlson, Robert (Rhonda) Hitchler and Jean Hitchler; grandchildren, Jamie (Chris) Wiseman, Stevie (Andrew) Campbell, Edward (Whitney) Hitchler, Nicole (Justin) Morgan, Meghan (Tyler) Breckenridge, Hannah (Nickolas) Meredith, Joshua (Kaylee) Carlson, Robert Hitchler Jr. and Greta Hitchler; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Donna Jean. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM., Monday, July 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 25 at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday, at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of mass.
