BARBARA E. JONAS

Barbara E. Jonas of Lombard Barbara E. Jonas passed away on Friday, Nov.23, 2012, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with breast cancer. Barbara was born in September of 1936, in Mount Carroll, Ill., to Dorothy Sack and Gerald Ritenour. She lived in Bensenville as a young girl, and settled in Lombard after her marriage to Ernie to raise a family. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ernie Jonas; daughter, Jerriann Ross; and son, Steven Jonas. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Chrissy, Daniel and Rachel Jonas, and Jason Ross. Barbara was also very close with her sisters, Norma VandeMerkt and Diane Todderud. She was preceded in passing by her loving parents, in-laws and nephew. Barbara worked for 25 years for District 44 as a special education teacher's assistant, and librarian. She was known as a pillar of strength to others with breast cancer in the Elmhurst Hospital Support Group; and was also active in her church Alpha Group. She always had a smile, and will be missed by many. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. She will lie in state Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m., at Community Presbyterian Church, 1111 E. Madison, Lombard.
