GLENDALE HEIGHTS - Betty Jean Overbeek (nee Peters), 75, formerly of Addison and Chicago, died Thursday, Jan. 21, at home surrounded by her family after a five-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Betty was a 1962 graduate of Steinmetz High School, Chicago. She worked as an executive assistant at OfficeMax Corporate Headquarters, Naperville, until her retirement in 2014. She embodied kindness and class, and she touched the lives of so many with her generous spirit, witty stories and playful sense of humor. Her retirement was devoted to her grandchildren, her many friendships, and her love of travel. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Addison, and formerly of Grace Lutheran Church, Bensenville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Elizabeth Peters; and her grandson, Matthew Overbeek. She is survived by her sister, Donna Peters Robinson of Sycamore; her three children, David (Haley) Overbeek of Bloomingdale, Steven (Cindy) Overbeek of Plainfield, and Kristin (Eddie) Wagner of Bartlett; and her six grandchildren, Ashley, Kelly, Carson, Kayla, Xander and Reese. Donations to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research at A memorial service is planned for summer.
