CLYDE CONRAD Obituary

GLEN ELLYN - Clyde George Conrad, born September 27, 1928, died peacefully in his sleep April 8, 2016 at his home in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Clyde was born in Denver, Colorado and was the older of the two sons of Joseph Conrad and Laura Conrad Throckmorton. Clyde served in the Army during the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Denver, to work for the telephone company and complete his university degree in electrical engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder. It was there that he met the love of his life, Lois Warrington, while installing her telephone. Clyde and Lois married on August 24, 1955. They raised four sons: Larry (Debbie), Don (Lynn), David (Molly) and Robert (Donna). Clyde and Lois have been blessed with nine grandchildren: Keith (Gillian), Leanne, Daniele (Zach) Leonard, Caitlin (Mike) Luszczek, Claire, Patrick, Anthony Bosque, Kacie and Sam and also six great granddaughters: Maya, Zoe, Annabelle, Alice, Audrey and Alina. Clyde had many talents and skills and was known for his ability to fix anything, which he passed on to his four boys. He was always willing to help his children and grandchildren, from building a home addition, to teaching a granddaughter to drive and from coaching football to babysitting the great-grandchildren. He and Lois attended probably over 1,000 soccer, lacrosse and football games, swimming and wrestling meets, and chorus, band and orchestra concerts. Clyde was an active member of Village Green Baptist Church in Glen Ellyn, Illinois for over 40 years. He was chairman of the building committee when the church built its original structure in 1974 and played an important role in construction of the church's building addition in 2006. Clyde loved to travel and see new places. He and Lois traveled to all 50 states, all of the Canadian provinces, parts of Mexico and many countries in Europe. Clyde's life was marked by his love for his family, especially for his wife Lois, his optimistic spirit and his willingness to always help someone in need. Clyde loved the Lord and put his trust in Jesus Christ. A verse that characterizes Clyde's love for the Lord is Psalm 13:6, I will sing the Lord's praise, for he has been good to me. A memorial to celebrate Clyde's life will be held on May 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., at Village Green Baptist Church, 200 S. Lambert Road, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. There will be a luncheon immediately after the service in the church gym. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to either Village Green Baptist Church or to Rock Steady Boxing, Inc., a charitable organization that improves the lives of individuals with Parkinson's through non-contact boxing inspired fitness training. Clyde was an active participant in and greatly enjoyed Rock Steady's sessions in Glen Ellyn. Rock Steady Boxing's website is https://www.rocksteadyboxing.org/.
