DONALD WOLSFELT Obituary

Donald Wolsfelt, 82, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care on Friday, October 10, 2014. He was born April 9, 1932 in Aurora, IL the son of Leo and Cynthia Wolsfelt. Donald married his lovely bride Donna on May 1, 1954 and spent the next 55 happy years of their lives together until her passing on May 12, 2009. Don graduated from West Aurora High School. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was the owner of Wolsfelt's Floral Shop and served 15 years on the Board of Directors of the Allied Florist Association and served as President of Teleflora Wire Service. He and his wife founded Wolsfelt's Victorian Bridals which is now widely known as one of the most respected and elite bridal salons in Northern Illinois. In 2003 he and Donna were honored at the Chicago Field Museum with the prestigious DEBI award as the Outstanding Bridal Retailer of the Year. Don was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. He had a love for politics, serving locally and proudly attending many political events, as evidenced by the many photos and accolades in his office. He served as a Trustee for 12 years for the Village of Montgomery; 9 years as Legislative Aide for Senator Forrest Etheredge and 12 years on the Board of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce. Don was the recipient of the Kane County Republican Committeeman of the Year in 2011. Many enjoyable memories were made with the family at home and while vacationing and boating on Castle Rock Lake in Wisconsin. In recent years, Don spent the winter in Arizona, where he made many friendships and could be found singing Broadway and classical music at various local venues. While Don had many lifetime accomplishments, he will mostly be remembered for always having a smile on his face, a song of love and joy in his heart, and as one who never missed an opportunity to help someone in need. Don is survived by his son, Kevin (Stephanie) Wolsfelt and his daughters, Vicki Wolsfelt (Gary Rada) and Dawn Wolsfelt. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Donna Wolsfelt. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 2-6 P.M. at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60506. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, 325 E. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60505. Pastor Jeff Moore will officiate. Interment will be at River Hills Memorial Park with military honors. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, 55 E. Don was a great friend to me and gifted us all with his wonderful cheerful spirit. Full of energy and a great love for this country and its people, I will always remember Don. We were blessed recently to enjoy a fall day together in his classic Wisconsin made Dunphy wooden boat on Lake Geneva. A great day and a lifelong memory.

I enjoyed being Don's vocal coach the last couple of years. When he wasn't singing, he loved to tell stories about his horses, his Army days, and his musical adventures in Arizona. Rest in peace, Don...and have fun singing in that heavenly cabaret!
