Elvira Hulke

Elvira Hulke of South Elgin Visitation for Elvira Hulke, 97, will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the services at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 36W720 Hopps Road, South Elgin, with the Rev. Keith Perry officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Born March 12, 1911, in Courtland, Minn., the daughter of Martin and Alwina (nee Voges) Langhorst, she passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles. Elvira was the oldest of six children. At the age of 18, she moved to Elgin. On Dec. 22, 1933, she married Irvin Hulke and together they raised four children. She was happiest in her kitchen, cooking, baking cookies and playing cards. She was the oldest charter member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in South Elgin. She leaves behind a very large and loving family. Surviving are her two daughters, Betty Lou (Gilbert) Radtke of Ashippon, Wis. and Lois Jeanette Hegner of Marengo; one son, Jerry (Leah Anderson) Hulke of South Elgin; 16 grandchildren, Greg, Becky, Heidi, Jennifer, Jonathan, Joel, Pam, Penny, Brad, Steve, Sheree, Jodi, Kim, Kari, Kelly and Kristi; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ardella Austad of Lakeville, Minn.; her sisters-in-law, Verone and Delores Langhorst, Dorothy Olson, Loraine (Loyal) Humbracht, Delores Sterba, Ruth Pogoda and Betty Hulke; her brothers-in-law, Larry and Richard (Marge) Hulke; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin in 1975; one son, Duane in 2002; daughter-in-law, Phyliss Hulke (nee Lohbauer) in 1996; son-in-law, Frank Hegner in 2005; sister, Loretta; brothers, Marlin, Elmer and Wallace Langhorst; four sisters-in-law; and eight brothers-in-law. Memorials may be given to King of Glory Lutheran Church. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, 847-741-8800, is in charge of arrangements.
