Frank Schwartz

Frank Schwartz of Des Plaines since 1940 Prayers for Frank Schwartz, 96, will be said at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Ave., Des Plaines, proceeding to St. Mary Church, 794 Pearson St., Des Plaines, for a Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at the funeral home. Born Feb. 16, 1911, in Passaic, N.J., he died Sunday, March 25, 2007, in Glenview. Mr. Schwartz was self-employed in the construction business. He was a benefactor and life member of the Des Plaines Senior Center, and a benefactor of Holy Family Hospital and Lutheran General Hospital. He owned the Isle of Man Tavern from 1945 to 1953, and built and owned the Beacon Tap from 1955 to 1980. He did construction all over the United States and helped build the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He was also a life member of the Des Plaines Elks, the Des Plaines Moose and the Des Plaines YMCA. He was the husband of the late Bernice; father of Karen Schwartz and the late Frank Schwartz Jr.; brother of John (the late Dorothy) Zub, Mildred (the late Joseph) Zemlik, Jean Zaris, Ann (the late Michael) Mikolajczyk, Rose (Edward) Davie and the late Mary (the late Edward) Ernst; grandfather of seven; great-grandfather of 10; and uncle of many loving nieces and nephews.
