GERALD A. "JERRY" SCHAEFER

1934 - 2013

WAUCONDA - Gerald A. "Jerry" Schaefer 79, longtime Wauconda resident, passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side November 29, 2013, at Northwest Community Hospital. He was born at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Aurora on March 23, 1934. His father Martin H. and stepmother Alda M. Schaefer raised Gerald in Wauconda with his siblings Martin, Rosemary, Dorothy, Stanley and Robert, all of whom have passed away. Gerald graduated from Wauconda High School and became a member of the armed forces, Private First Class in 1956. He served at Fort Lewis Washington until he was honorably discharged in 1958, receiving a Good Conduct Medal. While serving, he specialized in radio repairs and later continued his training in a local electronic technical program. Gerald owned and operated, Schaefer & Smith T.V. with his step-brother Robert, and later owned and operated Schaefer T.V. with his then-wife Gail Wittenberg-Trumbull. He is survived by his loving stepdaughters Sherri (Michael) Lindsey and Kirsten Wittenberg; cherished grandfather of Samantha Lindsey and Andrea (Josh) Worley; great grandfather to Jocelynn Worley; loving uncle to Daniel Smith; great uncle to Pam (John) Stanley and their children Keira and John of Wauconda; uncle to Phillip (Sally) Schaefer and their children of Springfield, and brother-in-law to Alma Schaefer of Decatur. Gerald was an active participant in politics, served on the Wauconda Township Board, was an avid bridge player and interested in electronic and computer technologies.
