Hugo Scham

Hugo Scham of Elgin Memorial services for Hugo Scham, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., (Route 31), Elgin, with visitation from 12 noon until the time of services. Born April 14, 1923, in Lodz, Poland, the son of Otto and Amelia (Burst) Scham, he passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008. Hugo was a plumber and had worked for Martin F. Runge for 30+ years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed boating, camping, snowmobiling, and visiting and reminiscing about old times with family and friends. Hugo will be dearly missed. He was a 50+ year member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union #501. Survivors include his wife, Ernestine "Ann," whom he married Aug. 11, 1951; children, Diana (Scham) Sowa of South Elgin and Viktor (Linda) Scham of Elgin; grandchildren, Korrine, Samantha, Jakob and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Sophie and Alex; brother, Karl (Waultraud) Scham; sisters, Laura Maier and Lydia (Willy) Schuchardt; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Theo Scham; and sister, Alma Weidemeier. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. For information, 847-741-8800.
