James J. "Jim" Becker

James J. "Jim" Becker formerly of Hanover Park The visitation for James J. "Jim" Becker, 85, of Cherry Valley, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. and a Time of Reflection at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford. Burial will be private. Born July 24, 1923, in Chicago, the son of Charles and Mary (nee Klecan) Becker, he went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 24, 2009, in his home, surrounded by his family. Jim married Theresa Mormino in Chicago on Dec. 28, 1947. He was an Army veteran of World War II and worked as a truck driver for P.I.E. until retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church in Rockford and was a volunteer for Sunday Morning Hospitality. Jim was a member of Teamsters Local 705, the Golden Circle Bowling Team in Hoffman Estates and a former member of Moose Lodge 404 in Aurora. He enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening, and had a great sense of humor. Jim is survived by his wife, Theresa; three daughters, Jamie James, Shirley (Alan) Russell and AmyJoy Gurin; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother, George (Eleanor) Becker; and many nieces and nephews.
