JOHN R. SMITH

John R. Smith, age 94, passed away June 4, 2022. Born Nov. 2, 1927, he was the beloved husband of 63 years to the late Ruth Smith (nee Herrman). Loving father of Mary Kate (Mark) Bertane, John R. Jr. (Mary), James (Karin), Robert (Christine), and the late Ann. Proud grandfather of 15 and great-grandfather of 6. John was a lifelong resident of Des Plaines, IL, and parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church, as well as, a 35 year summer resident of Grand Beach, MI. He was a graduate of St. George High School and DePaul University. After retiring from a long career in the pharmaceutical industry, he served as the travel manager at the Frisbie Senior Center. Masses are appreciated. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 10, 2022, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Church, 794 Pearson St., Des Plaines, Illinois. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, Illinois.
