JOSEPH KOVACK Obituary

Joseph Kovack of Lake Barrington, Illinois, formerly of Mount Prospect, Illinois, died at home on September 28, 2023, at the age of 88. Joseph, the firstborn child of Joseph and Victoria Kovack (nee Jachim), was raised in Chicago, Illinois. He left school during his teenage years to pursue work at Teletype Corporation where he served as a machinist for 32 years. In 1960, Joseph married Patricia Carson in Chicago, where they lived for a few years before moving to Mount Prospect. Together, they raised their three children in the home they built there. In 2020, Joseph and Patricia moved to a senior living community. Joseph was a master at fixing automobiles and anything mechanical. Repair people were unheard of in his family's home as Joseph took care of everything. He enjoyed woodworking and built a variety of cradles and dollhouses for his family members. Joseph liked spending time at his trailer in Wisconsin and was proud to be Dziadek (grandfather) to nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was an advocate for hard work and the benefits earned from it. Joseph often joked "You don't work, you don't eat!" The way he lived his life served as testimony to the credo and inspiration for his children. Joseph is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia; his daughter, Jacqueline (Daniel) Whitaker, his son, Mark (Susan) Kovack, and his daughter, Gwendolyn (Kelly) Harris. In addition, Joseph is survived by his grandchildren, Tyler (Becky) Whitaker, Julia (Brando) Hall, Craig Harris, Shelby (Jose) Estrada, Victoria Harris, Michael (Milda) Harris, Kirsten (Austin) Motley, Jonathan Harris, and Joseph (Emma) Kovack; as well as his great-grandchildren, Cadence, Elvis, Mia, Elizabeth, and Benjamin. Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, and his mother, Victoria. The family would like to thank JourneyCare Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Joseph in his final days. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Joseph's life on Saturday, October 7, 2023, in the Community Room at Lake Barrington Woods, 22320 Classic Court, Lake Barrington, Illinois. Visitation with the family will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to JourneyCare Hospice or the Parkinson's Foundation.

Joe Kovack was a kind, generous, thoughtful neighbor, always willing to volunteer help to others, including to my family. I remember driving over to help my mother with snow on the driveway numerous times, only to find Mr. Kovack had already tackled the job himself. He would immediately come over to help whenever a hood on a car was lifted. We didn't even need to ask!
He definitely knew his way around an automobile. Joe was that sort of person; hard working, thoughtful, and kind. He also had the most immaculately groomed yard I've ever seen. He shared laughs with my father, and always had a cheerful disposition, and a big heart. I'm sad the world has lost him, but grateful for having known him. The memory of Joe Kovack lives on in each of us who had the pleasure of knowing him. We send our deepest condolences to Pat and the entire Kovack family.
