1934 - 2022

Julie A. Costello, 87, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2022, in Bloomingdale, IL, with family at her side. She was born on June 22, 1934, in Chicago, to the late William and Sophie Tiknis. Julie is survived by her children, Nancy (Dan) Thiede, Diane (Jerry) Baldwin, Thomas (Lucy) Ruzicka; grandchildren, Lindsey, Aaron, Ally, Kimi, Tim, and Sam; and great-grandchildren, Hudson, Delilah, Peyton, and Raegan. She is also survived by her sister, Jeanne Rasmussen; sister-in-law, Arlene Foy; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, George Ruzicka and James Costello; brother, William Tiknis; sister-in-law, Charlotte Tiknis; brother-in-law, Norman Rasmussen; and brother-in-law, John Foy. Julie was a longtime employee of Elgin School District U-46, holding various clerical positions at Eastview Jr. High and Elgin High. She enjoyed golfing and bowling in her younger years. Other interests included bridge and poker clubs, reading, crossword puzzles, board games, the music of Elgin Choral Union, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Most of all Julie enjoyed family functions of any kind, and she organized several memorable family vacations. She was wonderful in the role of Mom, "Gma," and "Gigi" to her loving family. The family would like to thank Lakeview Memory Care and Linda Johnson of Alera Hospice Care for providing Julie with compassionate care in her final months. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 10:30 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will follow at the Bartlett Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 4-8 PM in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or any animal rescue facility.
