PROSPECT HEIGHTS - LaVerne Julianne "Lee" Altmaier, 91, has passed away. She died in Chillicothe, Ohio, on 15 July, 2021. Lee was born January 29th, 1930, in Chicago. She attended Steinmetz High School. In 1952 she married Frank Charles Altmaier, a pharmacist. Lee was sweet and sociable with a strong will. Her caring personality was reflected in the sheer number of people who loved her. She worked as a bookkeeper, pharmacy assistant, and was extremely proud of her 25 years of volunteer work at the Lutheran home in Arlington Heights. She was also a member of the congregation at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Palatine. Skilled at handicrafts like quilting and basketmaking, she loved her books and doing puzzles with her husband Frank, and was a whiz at cards, even into her late eighties. She shall be remembered as a great lover of dogs and a woman who cared deeply for her children, her grandkids, her great-grandkids, nieces and nephews, and everyone else in her grand extended family. Lee was the youngest daughter of Herbert George Henson and Agnes Amanda Henson (nee Benson). Her older sister, Elaine Carolyn Gross (nee Henson); her eldest son, Charles Walker Altmaier; and her husband, Frank, all preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters; grandchildren and their children, Janet Leslie Gustison (nee Altmaier), Janet's daughters, Morgan and Hannah; Leslie Amanda Buchanan (nee Altmaier), her husband, John Craig Buchanan and their sons. Alex, James and Ben; Charles's children, Andrew, Monica and Kevin and their mother, Annette Altmaier; and great-grandchildren, Walker and Eli. A visitation will be held Friday, July 23rd from 4-9pm, the funeral is on Saturday, the 24th at 10am, both held at Matz Funeral Home, located on 410 E. Rand Rd., Mt. Prospect, Illinois. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Chicago. The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to Huntington's Disease Society of America. For info, 847-394-2336.
