Matthew Pasternak Obituary

Matthew M. Pasternak of Buffalo Grove Prayers for Matthew M. "Mike" Pasternak a longtime resident of Buffalo Grove, will be said at 9:15 a.m. today, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. A Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10 N. Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove. Burial will be in St. Mary Church Cemetery. Born Nov. 29, 1923, in Chicago, the son of Adam and Mary Pasternak, he died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights. Mr. Pasternak was a retired building engineer for Kemper Insurance of Long Grove for more than 10 years, formerly with Scott Foresman in Glenview. He captained "The Breaktime," a fishing charter boat out of Waukegan Harbor for many years. Mike served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a lifetime member and former officer of IOMA Rod & Gun Club, a former member and officer of the Waukegan Charter Boat Association, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His survivors include his wife of more than 55 years, Maryann (nee Bloniarz), whom he married Nov. 25, 1948, in Chicago; his children, Christine Quinn of Reno, Nev., Janet (Leonard) Wade of Buffalo Grove and Michael Edward Pasternak of Buffalo Grove; his grandchildren, Brian Hellesen, Ruth Cachares, and Daniel, Alex and Matthew Wade; and great-grandchildren, Calvin and Rose Hellesen; sisters, Virginia (Arthur) Busby, Loretta (Joseph) Pisowicz and Vera Szerszen. He was preceded in death by his brother, Adolph Pasternak, and a brother-in-law, Frank Szerszen. For information‚ (847)253-0168.
