It has been two years since Dr. Scanlon passed away (7/14/2005). The Scanlon family would like to thank everyone for their kind words of support, sympathy cards, mass cards and donations to the heart research fund founded in his name. We would especially like to thank all his patients and everyone who worked with him at Loyola for sharing so many nice stories. We still really miss him!

Dr. Scanlon was my doctor for over 25 years. I moved to Arizona 3 years ago, and only today learned of his passing. He was one of the kindest, and most careing gentleman I have ever known. No one really wants to visit the doctor, but I always looked forward to visiting my friend. The only Doctor to ever give me his home phone number in case of an emergency. Thanks to him, I never had to use it.I considered him to be my friend, as well as the most competient doctor I have ever known. This world will surely be a little lonelier with his passing. Your family has my deepest and most sincere condolences for your loss. May God bless you all

My mother has been a patient of Dr. Scanlons for over 30 years....I don't remember when he wasn't. I admired him and respected him for his kindness and understanding as well as his prestigious knowledge in his field. He always made himself accessible to me and my family whenever we needed information about Mom. He was such a kind, gentle man and so erudite in his field and just about everything else.....there was nothing he wouldn't do for his patients and their families. My heart goes out to his wife, children and grandchildren....he was still a relatively young man and shouldn't have had his life cut short so early. God bless him and all of you. Dr. Scanlon was a man who made a VERY BIG DIFFERENCE in the many lives he touched and probably countless others who only know him through his books and professional papers. God rest his soul and continue to honor his memory among those who were fortunate enough to have him as their physician or as a consultant or got to know him in any way!

DR. SCANLON WAS MY FATHER'S DOCTOR FOR OVER 25 YEARS. I BROUGHT MY FATHER TO SEE HIM AND ALWAYS FELT THE COMPASION AND TRUE HEARTFELT FEELINGS DR. SCANLON HAD FOR MY FATHER. MY FATHER PASSED ON 5/31/04, AND AFTER HEARING OF HIS DEATH DR. SCANLON SENT ME A NOTE OF CONDOLENCE. I THEREFORE AM SENDING MY CONDOLENCES TO DR. SCANLON'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS. To the family of Pat Scanlon
I first met Pat in the spring of 1990. He hired me after I retired from the Air Force. He was instrumental in making a smooth transition from military medicine to civilian academic medicine. As he was to many other physicians, he was an important mentor for me. I worked with him as my Chief, cath lab colleague, general cardiology c olleague,and friend. I had clinic next to him on Tuesday mornings for several years. I learned of his illness when I visited Loyola on May 25, 2005, but he was not at his office that day. I was very saddened to hear of his illness and his death. He has been in my prayers.

Our deepest sympathy to all of you. Dr. Scanlon was my father's cardiologist for over 31 years. He always spoke very highly of him, not only as a Physician, but as a person. Dr. Scanlon was the type of Physician that is a rare gift to both the medical field and his patients.

Dr. Scanlon was my cardiologist for 19 years and my wife's for nearly that long. His gentle skill and wisdom guided me through many procedures, including five stents, and enabled me to avoid having the more invasive procedures. He will be greatly missed. The Wilsons

I met Dr. Scanlon in 1991 seeking out a "second opinion." It was that visit wherein he reflected the most gentle and caring manner which empowered me to change cardiologists. And indeed he was a most special person, for whom I have remained with Loyola all these years while driving 52 miles to and from. What a special person, indeed.. To all the Scanlon Family,
Your Dad kept my Dad (John Halbert) alive for a precious few more years. Dr. Scanlon was Dad's cardiologist from 1985 to 1991 at Loyola Medical Center. Driving in from the small town of Lake Villa to Loyola was a challenge but we did it so that Dad could be cared for by Dr. Scanlon. Thank you for providing Dr. Scanlon with such a supportive family as yourselves and with love. I know you are feeling a great loss at this time. Dr. Scanlon was my first boss after graduating from high school and entering the business world as a secretary back in 1975. For two years, I worked in the Cath Lab (down in the basement at Loyola) and Dr. Scanlon was a joy to work for. It never seemed like work! He was a very kind and caring doctor and a wonderful human being. My deepest sympathies to the Scanlon Family.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Scanlon. He was my mother's cardiologist. I credit his wonderful care for mom still being with us. I was so impressed that when visiting Dr. Scanlon he always knew mom, knew her condition, and knew the current course of treatment without having to consult her chart. The wise and reassuring counsel that he gave meant so much, it was almost as if Dr. Scanlon wore a Roman collar in addition to being a physican, he will be deeply missed by the many people he helped.

Our deepest sympathy for your loss. His passing will be a loss to everyone that knew this kind, wonderful man. He was my father's cardiologist from 1986 until 1993, and years later, when I experienced a heart attack, I knew I also wanted him as my cardiologist. I found out recently, when I called to make an appointment, that he'd been ill, but this has still come as a shock. We will both miss his gentle, reassuring, professional manner.

For over 16 years ,Dr. Scanlon treated both Kathy and I . He pulled us thru numerous procedures. He always gave us hope,personal attention, and his warm reassuring smile. He was the ultimate professional. He was simply the very best.Regardless of how busy he was he always took time to chat with us. He was very proud of his children, loved his new found interest in art and his trip to Florence. We actually had thought that he might eventually move to the Naples ,Florida . We will always be greatful in our rememberance. Our sincere sympathy to his entire family.He will be missed.
