RACHAEL GENELIN Obituary

GURNEE - Rachael Rene Genelin, 37, a resident of Gurnee, IL, passed away February 24, 2024, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born June 2, 1986, in Westerville, OH, to Michael and Renee (Stueber) Genelin. Rachael attended St. Gilbert School, Carmel High School and St. Mary's University of Winona, Minnesota, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Her professional work life began as a behavioral therapist for troubled youth and children with autism. She later changed careers and worked with her father and grandfather at Industrial Packaging Corp. Rachael had a true appreciation for life and self-improvement. She enjoyed exercising and hiking, educating herself and others on nutrition, and gardening. She and her boyfriend met at the Rooftops of Wrigley Field, where they shared a diehard interest of the Cubs. Her faith, caring for others, and generosity was of precedence for her. Rachael loved family and friends with a passion, a genuine love that was felt by all who knew her and will never be forgotten. She fought a long and courageous battle with cancer and was always upbeat and positive. Rachael was a role model for others seeking alternative avenues for health and well-being. She brought inexplicable joy to the hearts of many with her warmth and contagious laugh. Rachael will be dearly missed by all. Rachael is survived by her father, Michael Genelin, her mother, Renee Genelin; boyfriend, Michael Ranvestel; her siblings, Michael (Khadija) Genelin, Matthew Genelin (Christine Berry), Molly Genelin (Colin Stiefer); her niece and nephew, Aliya and Bashir; her godmother, Amy Abel, godfather, Brian Genelin; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and her crazy dog, Remi. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jim and Pat Genelin and Roman and Arlene Stueber; and her uncle, Kevin Genelin. A visitation and funeral mass are scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2024, at St. Gilbert Church, 301 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030, from 10:00am until 1:00pm, with the mass commencing at 1:00pm. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Gilbert Church. All funeral arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Renee and family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I just learned of Rachael's passing last night from Mary Gucwa (we are both parishioners at St. Paul). Had I known, I would have attended the services. I am truly sorry ... you are in my prayers.

I was in homeroom with Rachel for all four years of high school. She was honestly one of the most genuine, soft spoke and honestly kind people I remember. I had a lot of negative things happen to me with my family during that time period of my life, she made me feel respected and valued. I remember her name because of these things. I am so incredibly grateful to have known her during some of the most challenging times in my life. I am so sorry for the loss this world is experiencing without a light like her in it. She truly was a light and very funny, she didn´t know how funny she was, she was truly a uniquely beautiful person. I am better for having known her, I have thought of her from time to time, my heart broke when I saw this. My sincere condolences.

Dear Genelin Family,
My sympathies to all of you. What a lovely obituary for Rachael. A spark taken from God's earth too soon.

What amazing strength and fight Rachel had in her! With the incredible support of her family and friends she is truly an inspiration! Though taken way too early from this earth- she will be an amazing Ángel in heaven where God has a plan for her! My heart goes out to Renee and Mike and family. I did not know Rachael but I followed her brave battle with her disease. She was so courageous! May she find rest in heaven. She certainly suffered a purgatory in this life. Godspeed Rachael.
