RICHARD OBENAUF Obituary

Richard J. "Archie" Obenauf Visitation for Richard J. "Archie" Obenauf will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home, 235 N. Main St., Wauconda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, the Little White Church, 22333 W. Erhart Road, Mundelein. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Born April 13, 1938, in Mundelein, to the late Priscilla (nee Wagner) and Michael Obenauf, he passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at home. Archie was a lifelong resident of Fremont Township and the owner or R.J. Obenauf and Sons Welding Service. Although he retired from Tonyan Bros. in 2000 as a Local 150 machine operator, he continued to work in his beloved shop which he affectionately referred to as "Archieville." There, with his faithful dog Shadow at his side, he did repairs, projects and welding jobs for family and friends. He took great pride in making sure things were done perfectly. Archie loved working with his hands and could fix almost anything; his delight was in helping others, even strangers. Anyone was welcome to stop by, but most of all he loved having his grandchildren around. "He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend; we will truly miss him!" He was the beloved husband of Joan; proud father of Michael (Denise) Obenauf, Patti (Ken) Simmermon, Jim (Linda) Obenauf and stepdaughter, Patti (Rodney) Lane; cherished grandfather of Josh, Sarah, Kate, Jacklynn, Travis and Francesca; dear brother of William (Mary Lou), Priscilla "Toots" (Ted) Binzel and Mariann (Tim) Mayer; and dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101. My Dear Father-in-law,

You took the roll over 26 years ago to be "my dad" when my dad was no longer here on earth. I have to say you had big shoes to fill and you did it well.

I will cherish the ice fishing days and cleaning the fish in your shop, non-the-less in a t-shirt because it was guaranteed to be warm! I will also cherish the days of crying together while making our homemade horseradish because of the strong root.

You will remain in my heart forever. Miss you.

I love you,
Linda Darlin'
