RICHARD TRETINA Obituary

Richard Tretina formerly of Glen Ellyn Richard Tretina, 75, of Wisconsin Dells, Wis., was born Jan. 10, 1937, in Chicago. He died May 20, 2012, in Wisconsin Dells. In loving memory of a man who loved life, living it to the fullest. He was a devoted husband, a caring father and a fun loving person whom everyone wanted to be his friend. He found his niche in service to his family, job and populace. Richard served in the Marines; he helped build now famous buildings in the Local 597 having leadership as general foreman; and he served proudly as an auxiliary police officer in Glen Ellyn, overwhelmingly elected as captain for a record three terms. All that and he still made sure his family was most important and that he remained humble. He truly was a giver, rarely a taker. May the world give back with just a few moments of time by visiting his memorial, whether or not you knew him. He truly was a great man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Tretina (nee Karwas); and loving children, Dorothy Tretina, Elizabeth (Keith) Lenard, Angela (Michael) Loda, Robert Tretina and Carolyn Tretina. He was the cherished grandfather of seven and great-grandfather of two. Memorial visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. with a memorial service at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. Private inurnment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside. For funeral information, call 630-469-0032.

Dad, What a send off you had. Awesome! First the bagpipes, then your Deacon nephew gave a beautiful service about the wonderful human being you were. Family spoke, me reading past letters of praise to you by the Auxilary Police in Glen Ellyn. The marines played the bugle and did the flag ceremony, with the Glen Ellyn police officer who came to honor your service. He was so moved by that. Finally, the bagpipes played again, and guests looked at all the displays family had on tables of photos, police badges, wrenches, awards you had received, your police star, and family photos... all to honor the great and humble man you were. I know that you still live on, within the hearts of all the people who's lives you touched so deeply. And that was many. I miss you here, but I will see you up there. Love you so much!!
