ROY HALVORSEN Obituary

Roy passed away October 21, 2022, at home surrounded by family. Loving husband to Dorothy (Moeller) for 65 years. Devoted father to Sharon (Ryan Mullaney), Kathy (John Millin), Lisa (Ed Green) and brother Roger (Paulette). Loving grandfather to Chad (Noog) Cody, Taylor, Katlin (Rick Daignault) Tally, Johnny, Jacob, Chloe, Danika and great-grandfather to Delle. Born to Roy and Rosalie Halvorsen on Feb. 12, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up loving baseball and football and was an avid Green Bay Packer and White Sox fan. Roy spent his summers with relatives in Eagle River, Wisconsin at his family cottage; there he enjoyed fishing, swimming, and walking in the woods. In his teenage years he moved to Des Plaines, Illinois, and was a 1951 graduate of Maine East High School. It was actually while waiting at the bus stop for high school that he first saw his future wife, Dorothy. Roy served in the Air Force as a fighter jet mechanic during the Korean War. He was very proud of his participation for the first inflight refueling mission and received a commendation ribbon. Roy resided in Mt. Prospect and worked at Commonwealth Edison as a lineman for 35 years. He served as Treasurer for the IBEW Local 15 Union. After retiring, he enjoyed teaching electrical classes for children at local schools through the Commonwealth Edison Safety Town Program. Roy and Dorothy loved traveling. They traced their family roots in Norway and Germany and enjoyed many family trips to National Parks and historical locations throughout the United States. They continued traveling to their cottage in Eagle River instilling the love for this special place with their children and grandchildren. Roy was also an avid reader and enjoyed riding his bike and walking outside in appreciation of all seasons. In his later years, he was an active member of the VFW Post 2992 in Des Plaines, Illinois. Roy had great respect for his fellow veterans and supported their causes. Services for family and close friends will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Mt. Prospect, Illinois on November 5, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to woundedwarriorproject.org or St. John Lutheran Church of Mt. Prospect.

Very sorry to hear of Mr Halvorsens passing. I have fond memories of discussing the White Sox, my Bears and his beloved Packers. He was a terrific guy who always spoke to me as an adult when I was just a young kid. My condolences to Mrs Halvorsen and the girls. Sharon and Kathy both babysat myself and my sister Maria.

I was a neighbor of Mr Halverson growing up in Hatlen Heights neighborhood. I wold see him riding his bicycle on Hatlen Av going to and from work. I remember how pretty his daughters were when they are growing up. The world is worse now since his soul has departed.
