RUTH MARY DALENBERG

ADDISON - Ruth was born on August 24th, 1936, to Eugene and Blanch (White) Nickelson and passed away on October 7th, 2023. She resided in Addison, IL for 55 years. Ruth attended Oak Park/River Forest High School, received a degree in English from Elmhurst College and her Masters degree from Northwestern University. She taught advanced placement English for more than thirty years at Main Township West High School in Des Plaines, IL. During her tenure, in 1987, she received the Golden Apple award in English. After her retirement she taught Non-Western Literature at Concordia University and also Elmhurst College. During summers she worked for College Boards. Ruth is survived by her husband, Roy Dalenberg, whom she married in 1998; her brother, Fred Nicholeson (Phylis); nephews, David and Craig Nickelson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and nephew, Jeff Nickelson; and also her grandnieces, Sarah and Abbie Nickelson. She was stepmother to Angela Barber (Matt), Chris and Tracy (Rico) Pavon. Grandma to Katy, Andrew and Isa Pavon. Ruth was a member of Iota Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma. A member of Elmhurst Choral Union. She was an avid world traveler, from Norway to Antarctica. She passed away on her last trip (Lisbon, Portugal). She will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, make a donation to Alzheimer's, Heart Association or cause of your choice. A memorial service her life will be November 10th at 10:00 a.m. in Faith Community UCC, 192 South Center Street, Bensenville, IL.
