STEPHEN M. WALRACK

1941 - 2016

SPRING GROVE- Stephen M. Walrack, age 74, of Spring Grove, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Centegra Hospital in McHenry. He was born May 29, 1941 in Lewistown, Montana to Dewey and Helen (Mikich) Walrack. Stephen grew up on a farm in Wisconsin, and was a graduate of Blanchardville High School. He moved to Illinois a couple years later and in 1963 he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He spent two years in Germany and attained the rank of Medic/Specialist E5. After his discharged he settled in Buffalo Grove. There he worked as a printer and became a firefighter with the Skokie Fire Department. He retired from the fire department after 19 years and worked as a printer full time until retiring in 2002. He then moved to Spring Grove where he thoroughly enjoyed working in his yard and helping neighbors beautify their yards. Many claimed Steve as having the best yard in the neighborhood. When he wasn't working in the yard, Steve enjoyed spending time with family and friends and watching sports. He was an avid Packer fan. Steve is survived by his wife Jean of 35 years; children, Michael Walrack of Marion, Michael Wolfsmith of Maple Park, William Wolfsmith of Shawano, WI, Mary Ellen (Jeffrey) Sullivan if Spring Grove; grandchildren, Alex, Alyssa, Michael, Briana, Caitlin, Sean, Summer; two great grandchildren, Troy and Owen; siblings, Gloria (the late Vince) Mastandrea, Keith (Sylvia) Walrack, Kathryn Diamond; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stanley and Matthew; a grandson Parker and a niece, Sandi. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Thompson Spring Grove Funeral Home, 8103 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove, IL 60081 Visitation will continue on Monday, February 1, at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until prayers at 9 a.m. leaving in procession to the 9:30 a.m. funeral Mass celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 2118 Main Street, Spring Grove, IL.
