MOUNT PROSPECT - Virginia Jennie Banas died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021 at the age of 82. Virginia was born on Jan. 15, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Sam and Angeline (Collurafici) Gianpicolo. She was a proud graduate of Schurz High School in Chicago. Following a beautiful wedding to Richard Banas, also of Chicago, the couple moved to Mt. Prospect, Illinois where they raised their family and she was very active in her local community. She was a kind, compassionate, loyal, dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and aunt. A very involved and loving grandmother, she never missed her grandchildren's sports games, recitals, graduations, and more. Virginia loved to sing and was a member of the Harmonaires Singing Group. She also loved to dance, and met Richard while dancing. The dance-loving couple went on to teach Country and Western dancing side-by-side together for a decade throughout the early 1990's. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Gianpicolo; survived by her loving and loyal husband, Richard Banas; children, Karen (Daniel) Walsh, and Dr. Melanie (Dr. Eric Kapustka) Banas; her grandchildren, Emily (Dalton) Potts, David Walsh, and Isabel Kapustka; and her great-granddaughter Eloise Potts. She will be missed by many other relatives and friends as well.
