On May 1, 1930, in Ashland, Alabama, the late Mr. Tom Clark and the late Mrs. Myrtle Smith Clark welcomed to their union one of 10 children, a beautiful sparkling baby girl named Arlene. She was loved by many people, especially her seven beautiful and loving children whom she took great care and gave all the motherly love a mother could give. Arlene had a passion for dancing and could cut the rug at the sound of any blues music. She was very family oriented, and she enjoyed entertaining her family, friends, and loved ones. She loved her bling's and fashion. She was cherished immensely by her family and all who knew her. At an early age, Arlene accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Ashland, Alabama where she remained a faithful member until her health begin to fail. Arlene was once a member of the Silver Stars and a member of the church choir. She received her formal education in the Clay County School System. As Arlene traveled through this walk of life with her humble spirit and fun-loving personality, she met the late, Mr. Aaron Protho and in 1945 they were united in Holy Matrimony and were blessed with two loving children. Mr. Protho was later called home for eternal rest. Arlene expanded her family with the blessing of five more loving children and a caring soulmate, the late Mr. Willie Heard, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2017. On Wednesday, September 7, 2022, Arlene Clark Protho, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt transitioned peacefully from this earthly walk of life to her new eternal resting place when she answered the call of her Master saying, "Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant" while under the care of Southern Care New Beacon Hospice in the comfort of her home surrounded by loved ones. Greeting her with outstretched arms at those pearly gates of heaven were her parents, Tom and Myrtle Clark, Sr., her siblings, Emma (Frank) Threats, Fannie (Vernon) Houston, Tom Frank (Rosa Mae) Clark, Jr., Ruby Lee (Herman) Mackey, Dorothy (Uncle Pink) Whitcomb, Sam Clark, and Catherine Powell and brother-in-law, Verona "Bell" Burney. Arlene's legacy of love and memories will forever be cherished and remembered by her four daughters, Lena Protho, Cassandra (Larry) Miller, Ester (Sherman) Twyman, and Latrice Nelson; three sons, Aaron (Felma) Protho, Dennis (Alesia) Nelson, and Terrell (Vanessa) Nelson; three siblings, Ann Burney, Nancy (Robert, Sr.) Street, and Richard Lawson; sister-in-law, Adoris Clark; brother-in-law, James Powell; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
