Professional services entrusted to S.M. Goodson Funeral Home and Crematory-Talladega. Born on May 27, 1953, in
Talladega, Alabama to the union of Raymond Staples and Barbara Ruth Wallace, Leon Staples graced this world with his quiet strength, steadfast faith, and gentle spirit. Leon's dedication to his faith was steady, having started his spiritual journey at a young age when he united with St. Campbell Missionary Baptist Church. His commitment to his beliefs was surpassed only by his love and devotion to his family. He was educated in the Talladega County School System where he attended Talladega County Training School. Upon completing his education, Leon worked as a stocker with Pepsi Cola and in the poultry industry with Tyson Foods. Leon was a man of many passions. From enjoying and loving on his family to entertaining his community, his creativity and love for life were evident in all that he did. Leon loved to dance and would give you a show free of charge. He was a well-known mascot for the Elegant Ebony Ladies and the Classy Ladies Social Savings Club making his grand entrance at each event with his fancy dance moves. To know Leon was to LOVE Leon. He never met a stranger and always kept you laughing. Leon was a big trash talker and could talk more trash than a little; and if you knew him well enough, you know he was a die-hard ALABAMA ROLL TIDE fan!!! His warm smile, kind heart, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know him. On Thursday, January 9, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family, Mr. Leon Staples entered into eternal rest peacefully while under the care of Princeton Baptist Medical Center. Prior to his departure, he made sure to tell his sister Dorothy "Thank You" and "I Love You" for all you have done for me. As he transitioned to his eternal rest, he was reunited with his parents Barbara Ruth Wallace and Raymond (Annie Pearl) Staples, bonus parents, Jimmy and Rosie Lee Garrett, brothers, Jimmy E. Garrett and Alphonzo Garrett, and sisters, Helen Staples and Deborah Ann Swain. Mr. Leon Staples leaves memories that will forever be cherished in the hearts of his loved ones: seven brothers, Eddie Frank (Willie Bell) Garrett, Walter Lewis (Vanessa) Garrett, and Johnny (Juanita) Smith, all of
Alpine, Alabama, Robert Earl (Lena) Springer of Tyler, Texas, Richard Staples and Darryl (Tabatha) Staples of
Alpine, Alabama, and London Bain (Shakira) Staples of Dacula, Georgia; four sisters, Dorothy Perry of Lincoln, Alabama, Mary C. Garrett, Bernadine (John) Terrell, and Victoria (Carl) Hill, all of
Alpine, Alabama; special bonus sister, Ola "Bonnie" Harris; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly. In honoring Mr. Leon Staples memory, let us cherish the love, wisdom, and joy he brought into our lives. As we gather to celebrate his life, let us reflect on the profound impact his spirit had on all who knew him, and may his memory bring us comfort and solace in the days ahead. S.M.
