Homegoing Celebration Remembering the Life of Mr. Mason Ragland, Sr., 92, of Talladega will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at S.M. Goodson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John L. Ragland officiating. Interment will commence immediately following the service at Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be a public viewing for Mr. Ragland on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. at S.M. Goodson Funeral Home-Talladega. Professional services entrusted to S.M. Goodson Funeral Home-Talladega. Born on August 20, 1931, in Talladega, Alabama, Mr. Mason Ragland, Sr. was the cherished son of Travis Curtis Ragland and Ollie Cunningham Swain. A man of faith, he dedicated his life to Christ at a young age and united with New Maryland Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life he found comfort and guidance through his active involvement at Tabernacle of Praise, PFC. Despite his limited formal education, Mr. Ragland found fulfillment in his role as a custodian at Helen Keller School, where he spent many years ensuring the environment was clean and welcoming for all. Mr. Ragland met the love of his life, the former Martha Cook, and together they shared over seven decades of a blessed and sacred marriage. Their union brought forth five loving children. His dedication to his family was unwavering. He reveled in their love and support, which brought him immense joy. His love of music and gardening was evident to all who knew him, and he often delighted in sharing his talents with those around him. Mason's true passion lay in fishing, singing gospel tunes and strumming his guitar - activities he enjoyed most when paired with his cherished wife, Martha Ragland. Together, they traversed many miles, sharing their gift of song with those in need of comfort and joy. Mr. Mason Ragland, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, gracefully departed from this world on Monday afternoon, August 12, 2024, while in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was welcomed home by his parents, Travis Ragland and Ollie Swain, sons, Thomas Ragland and Mason Ragland, Jr., brothers, John Ragland, Sr. and Hugh Oliver Ragland, and grandson, Thomas Ragland, Jr. Mr. Ragland's spirit will be eternally remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His 92-year legacy carries on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Martha Ragland; son, Milton (Shirley) Ragland; daughters, Linda (Michael) Jackson and Shelia (William, Jr.) Borden; grandchildren, Syleethia Ragland, Linda (Michael) Andrews, Nicole Hamilton, Timothy (Brittany) Garrett, Tressica Ragland, Michael Jackson, Jr., Terrance Jackson, Mason Ragland, III, Tiffany Ragland, Detrich Ragland, Darious (D'Jondra) Borden, and Cameron (Shanita) Borden; and a multitude of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
