A Homegoing Celebration for Ross L. Whitson, Jr. of Boonton, New Jersey, formerly of Talladega, Alabama was held in Boonton, New Jersey on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Professional services were entrusted to Codey and Mackey Funeral Home in Boonton, New Jersey. A Memorial Celebration Remembering the Life of Ross L. Whitson, Jr., 71, will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 12 p.m. at Word of God Community Church in Talladega, Alabama with Pastor George Adams officiating. On January 29, 1951 in Talladega, Alabama, Ross L. Whitson, Sr. and Georgia Jackson Whitson welcomed to the world a baby boy who was given the name, Ross L. Whitson, Jr. Ross was part of a large and loving family with a strong foundation in the church. He received his formal education in the Talladega City school System and was a graduate of Westside High School Class of 1969. Shortly after high school, in search of better job opportunities, Ross migrated to New Jersey, making this his home. He landed a job as a truck driver for Warren Distributors of Flanders for many years before retiring. Along Ross's earthly journey, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Catherine Beston and to this union was the blessing of four daughters. He adored his wife, children, grandchildren, and great- grandson. Ross was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hiking, and barbequing. He had a passion for gardening, which he learned from watching his father at a young age. Ross enjoyed listening to old school music and singing, along with his family. On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, in Boonton, New Jersey, Ross L. Whitson, Jr. answered the Master's call and boarded the train to glory reuniting with his parents, Ross and Georgia Whitson. Ross's legacy of love and precious memories will forever be remembered by his wife of 52 years, Catherine Whitson; four daughters, Deidra (Mark) McCollough, Tanya Whitson, Daneisha Whitson, and Aliyah Whitson; four grandchildren, Jhevan McCollough, Jayden McCollough, Craig Brooks, Jr., and Aiyana Whitson; one great-grandson, Noah McCollough; six sisters, Patricia Jenkins of Tacoma, Washington, Ernestine Curry, Debra (Victor) Wilson, Theresa Whitson, Diann Whitson, and Suzan Whitson, all of Talladega; five brothers, Lonnie Whitson, Oliver (Carmelita) Whitson, and Charles Whitson, all of Talladega, Walter Lee (Darlene) Whitson of Avondale, Arizona, and Christopher (Kelly) Whitson of Kent, Washington; one special sister, Ruth Clopton of Talladega; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
