James Frank Barrus, 72
James Frank Barrus, 72, passed away at home on September 9, 2025, in Coram, Montana. Born on May 13, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jim lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, and community.
Jim earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Louisiana State University, where he met Nancy. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary last December. His professional path reflected his dedication to building not only structures but also strong relationships and lasting legacies. Throughout his career and personal life, Jim was known for his generosity and kindness-qualities that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A man of deep faith, Jim was an active member of St. John Paul II Catholic Church. He also served as a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he found fellowship and purpose through service. He had a strong devotion to Mary, especially Our Lady of Fatima, sharing his knowledge and love of her with parishes across the Flathead Valley.
Jim found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved entertaining friends and family, cheering on football games with enthusiasm, casting a line while fishing, exploring nature through hiking, rafting, and sailing. These hobbies brought him peace and connection with those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wilson Barrus; his son Ben Barrus and daughter-in-law Sabrina Barrus; his daughter Helene (Barrus) LaVire and son-in-law Joshua LaVire; his sister Janet Westbrook; his brother Don Barrus; and his grandchildren Eleanor and Jackson LaVire. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Reginald Barrus and Betty (Schricker) Barrus; and his sister Helene Landry.
May Jim's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him. A Rosary will be held on September 19, 2025, from 10:30 led by his brother-in-law, Brian Landry, at St. John Paul II Catholic Church 195 Coverdell Rd, Bigfork, MT followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
