Ruby "Marie" Black

Ruby "Marie" Black, 87, of Franklin, IN completed her well-lived life on earth and met her Heavenly Father on August 4, 2023. Marie was born in Warrior, AL to Grady and Ruby (Calvert) Huffstutler on May 11, 1936. She married Donald Earl Black on March 18, 1953, at the young age of 16, just prior to his joining the Navy. They were married for almost 64 years, when he died on March 16, 2017. During those years, she was deeply devoted to her family and to supporting Don in his Christian Ministry in Mississippi, Indiana and Alabama. That involved numerous moves through the years, but she never complained, always making a home out of the house they were assigned, and offering her Southern hospitality to anyone who crossed her threshold.

Marie was predeceased by her parents and husband.

She is survived by four children: Donald Black, Jr. (Cynthia) of Greenwood, IN, Tonya Newkirk (Paul) of Franklin, IN, Jeff Black (Rhonda) of Franklin, IN and Cathy Campbell (Barry) of Franklin, IN as well as 5 grandchildren (Heather Murphy, Grant Black, Joe Black, Amanda Kruse and Katy Abel) and 12 great-grandchildren (Elijah and Lilah Abel, Josiah Martin, Corvin and Kendall Kruse, Brooklyne and Braelyne Black, Eoghan, Clara, Seamus, Macson and Oliver Murphy), and brother, Terry Huffstutler (Judy Warner) of Alabama.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 17, 2023, at 12PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com. Visitation with family will be from 10:00 until service time at the mortuary.
