Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of Frank and Mary (Sabo) Fox. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1940. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Muhlenberg College in 1951 and Master of Science degree in Physics from St. Lawrence University in 1953, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Sigma honor society. Bill served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, as a reconnaissance photographer in the South Pacific.
He worked at the Franklin Institute Research Laboratories from 1953 to 1957. He became a member of the technical staff at Bell Labs in Allentown, transferring to the Reading facility in 1962. He obtained several patents during his employment with Bell Labs.
Bill is survived by his wife; daughter-in-law, Bonnie L. (Kissling); son, Robert S. Fox and his wife, Ann (Skvoretz); and daughter Patricia, wife of Daniel G. Quinn. He was predeceased by a son, William M. Fox Jr. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Kelsea M. Fox, William M. Fox, III; Danielle P. Quinn, Marissa C. Quinn and Andrew G. Quinn.
A private service was held for the family. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Memorial Society, St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2810 St. Alban's Drive, Reading PA 19608 or Endowment for care of retired priests, Diocese of Allentown, PO Box F, Allentown, PA 18105-1538.
