James W. "Jim" Anderson

James W. 'Jim' Anderson of Downingtown James W. "Jim" Anderson, 94, of Downingtown, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester. He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine E. "Phine" (nee Muzii) Anderson, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2004. Born in Thorndale, Jim was the son of the late William and Edna (nee Stone) Anderson and attended Downingtown High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, as a Radar Crewman stationed in the Panama Canal, achieving the rank of Corporal and received the American Defense, American Theater, and Good Conduct Medals. Before his retirement in 1983, Jim worked for Sonoco Products as a first class pipefitter for 47 years. He enjoyed his time on the Sonoco Bowling League, scoring his personal best of 278. He played both baseball and softball all over Chester County and was invited to try out for the Philadelphia A's. Jim was a life time member of the Moose Lodge in Downingtown, as well as the Thorndale Fire Company. Mr. Anderson is survived by his children, Marsha A. Anderson and Denise M. Freas and her husband, Vincent, all of Downingtown; grandson, George S. Malle and his wife, Missy; and two great grandchildren, Alex and Zoe. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Richard Pendegrast, and sisters, Marguerite Domsohn and Betty Crandall. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 6th at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, where family and friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Downingtown.
