Kathryn Stroman Obituary

Kathryn E. 'Kay' Stroman of Downingtown Kathryn E. "Kay" Stroman, 90, of Downingtown formerly of Coatesville, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Seasons Hospice in Phoenixville, after a short illness. She was the wife of George L. Stroman, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1992, after 44 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia on Aug. 3, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Francis T. and Sadie Cook Reed. Kay graduated from Kensington High School in 1940 and worked in the offices of Reading Railroad until 1947. She married George in 1947 and lived in Bethlehem, Pa. for two years while George completed his studies at Lehigh University, moving to Coatesville in 1949 and where she resided until 1980, when she moved to Downingtown. She wintered in Jensen Beach, Fla. for 12 years. Mrs. Stroman was a 50 year member of St. Cecilia Church. She was a volunteer at the Brandywine Hospital and the Brandywine Thrift Shop in Downingtown, was on the Board of Directors at the Coatesville Senior Center for six years and was a member of Caln Civic Women's Club. Kay loved "people", gardening, music and was an avid bridge and pinochle player. Surviving her is a son, Donald F. Stroman of Plymouth Meeting; a very wonderful daughter-in-law, Eleanor; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Kevin, Mary, Alyssa and Laura Beth. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert G. Stroman; brother, Francis T. Reed; and two sisters, Anne Pallamary and Cecelia Reed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 80 South 17th Avenue, Coatesville. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan 3, at the Harris-Mountain Funeral Home, 1030 E. Lincoln Hwy., Coatesville. Private interment will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Coatesville. In her memory, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P. O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
