Mae Kapandais Obituary

Mae Hammond Kapandais of West Chester Mae Hammond Kapandais, (nee Bieber), 95, passed away on March 29, 2013, at Brandywine Hall Care Center, West Chester. Born in Sept. 1917, in Milton, Pa., Mae was the daughter of Edith (Seriff) and George Albert Bieber. She was predeceased by three husbands, Charles Eckman, George Hill and George Kapandais, as well as her brother, Rev. George S. Bieber, and a granddaughter, Gena Dattoli. Mae is survived by her children, Elizabeth Dattoli (Frank) of Plainfield, N.J., David Eckman (Mary Ellen) of Yardley, and Sherrie McGuinness of West Chester; and by her brother, Rev. Charles Bieber of Lancaster. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews. During her life, Mae resided in Williamsport, Pa., Franklin Township, N.J., West Chester and Oxford, before residing at Brandywine Hall. She worked for many years at Williamsport Area Community College (now Penn State) and had a catering business in N.J. and in PA with her husband, George Kapandais. When she moved to the West Chester area, she worked at Summit House as a club attendant. At Brandywine Hall she volunteered at the Resident & Staff Convenience Store for approximately two years, and was recognized for raising charitable funds for Japan Tsunami relief during that time. She enjoyed reading, bingo, family gatherings, and was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan. Mae's family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Brandywine Hall as well as her personal caregiver, Regina Bond "Reggie", for their kindness and loving care. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA. 19382, 610-431-9000. Interment will be in Watsontown, Pa. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to Brandywine Hall Resident & Staff Recreation Fund, 800 W. She was one of the sweetest,funniest customers I ever had in my gas station.Her sense of humor was a blessing to us all.I remember how she always had to go to the hairdressers each week.I'm sure she's smiling in Heaven
